Are you looking for DIY Christmas photos in the surrounding areas? I’ve got a few suggestions for Christmas photos in Frisco, Christmas photos in Plano, and Christmas photos in McKinney too!
The tree at Main Street Garden Park
Parking is easiest in this area, so that’s where we’re starting. The Christmas tree at Main Street Garden Park is decorated with green, gold, and silver accents. A ramp complete with lighting is built up on one side so this location is easily accessible to all! Play with your angle. Get some close ups with the tree behind you but also take a step back to capture the whole park green in your background. Don’t forget to use Portrait mode if you’re on your iPhone to make sure you get that lovely bokeh from the lights behind you!
2. The Wreath at Main Street Garden park
Head to the other end of the park for a GIANT wreath! This wreath also has a ramp built up to it, BUT, skip the platform. Instead, opt to stand in front of the wreath on the ground. You will want to stand closer to the camera than to the wreath to achieve this larger-than-life look below. Don’t completely discount the ramp though! Stand at the end to one side and take advantage of those gorgeous arches wrapped in garland! (see below)
3. Neiman Marcus Storefront
From Main Street Garden Park, head west down Main Street to your next Downtown Dallas photo location. We’re taking a quick pit stop at the iconic window displays of Neiman Marcus. While Neimans has windows on several streets, I loved the angle standing on Main Street looking down Ervay Street. BONUS TIP: especially if you have littles with you, stop by the Ladie’s shoe boutique in Neiman Marcus on Main Street. Inside, they’ve got a life-size snow globe that you can step inside. so magical!
4. Cadillac Tree at Pegasus Plaza
Get back on Main Street to continue your journey. While walking to your next destination, don’t forget to check out the Giant Eyeball across the street! At the corner of Main Street and Ackard Street, you’ll see your next destination, what is probably the most unique Christmas tree in Downtown Dallas!
5. The Thompson Dallas Colorful Holiday Entryway
From Pegasus Plaza, head north on Ackard Street towards Thompson Dallas. At the Ackard Street entrance, you’ll see an archway covered in garland and bold color ornaments. There’s even a little sleigh out front! It is a place of business so just make sure you’re not blocking the valet’s from doing their job.
6. The National Dallas White/ Gold Entryway
Head back down Ackard and turn back onto Main. At the Main Street Entrance to The National, you’ll see a two-story white and gold Christmas tree! To get the entire thing in your images, I suggest getting your shot across the street. You can even position yourself to cover most cars that would be passing in the background, just get creative with your angle!
7. ATT Discovery District
From The National, head back to Ackard going south. The street will dead-end into the ATT discovery district. So many fun photo ops here! As of this weekend, the giant globe had a beautiful balloon arch. There is, of course, another giant, beautiful tree. And, if you time your visit right, you might even catch a movie playing outdoors on the big screen or a holiday market with local vendors! You can view their planned events here: ATT Discovery District Events. On your way out, don’t forget to snag a pic with the beautiful, tree-lined Field Street.
8. Giant Ornaments at The Omni Dallas
From the ATT Discovery District, keep heading west on Jackson Street and turn left onto Lamar Street. At the Corner of Lamar Street and Young Street you will see several sets of GIANT red ornaments. Seriously, you can’t miss it. This is a great spot to finish up because there are so many angles including famous Dallas landmarks like the Pegasus and Reunion Tower. Since these ornaments are elevated above street level, this is a great place to play with angles and depth of field to capture your own unique shots!
And that wraps up our Downtown Dallas Christmas Photo Walking Tour! Each of these stops is listed on the map below with a green marker. I’ve also pinned some honorable mentions in red, they just didn’t logically fit into the walking path.

Find this cute wall by @sanpascual637 at the corner of Malcom X and Commerce Street in front of Yellow Rose Cockteleria in Deep Ellum. Cute and easy shot for the ‘gram!
Honorable Mention- Tree-Lined Alleyway at First Baptist Church Dallas
If you’re looking for a more minimalist backdrop for your holiday photos, this might be the place for you!
Honorable Mention- Red Bear Statue
This is so simple and so cute. Bonus, its on the outskirts of Downtown Dallas so it might be a tiny bit easier to find parking.
Honorable Mention- National Anthem Christmas Tree
Right across from the red bear statue is a cute little tree tucked away next to National Anthem. If you shoot facing north, you can get the cozy lights from the restaurant in the background.
